Praying for protection has been a big theme in our prayer times over the past few months. We have especially prayed for protection of our families and loved ones in relation to the Coronavirus. Co-incidentally Marg and I have been reading through the Psalms… A Psalm a day for the past 150 days. Psalm after Psalm has reminded us that the Lord is our fortress and protector. And so does the following Proverb for today.
The Lord gives wisdom and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He holds victory in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for
He guards the course of the just and protects the way of His faithful ones. – Proverbs 2:6-8
God is always working to protect us. Spiritual protection is equally as important as physical protection. (It may be argued that it is more important).
Four keywords in these Proverbs: shield, guard, protect, and victory. All express facets of God’s protection. Each of these facets are tied to an expression of holiness of life on our part. Living upright, just, faithful and blameless lives contribute to our protection: both physical and spiritual. We don’t live in a spiritual vacuum. Satan and his demons are constantly active and seek to attack us.
in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. – 2 Cor. 2:11.
We praise our Lord that we can declare victory over all the works of the evil one. Martin Luther proclaimed in his powerful hymn…
A mighty fortress is our God,
A bulwark never failing…
And though this world with devils filled
Should threaten to undo us.
We will not fear for God has willed,
His truth to triumph through us.
PRAYER: Father, show us freshly today that we can be safe and secure under your protective covering. We pray your protection today over our family (Name them); our friends (Name them) and over our church. Amen
