Proverbs for Wednesday: Prophetic Proverbs

I’m currently reading through the book of Ezekiel in my personal Bible reading plan. In this sweeping prophetic book, Ezekiel refers to two different proverbs and says they are obsolete. The reason being they simply weren’t true. People were quoting them not realising they had no validity.

# The people in Ezekiel’s day were repeating over and over, The days go by and every vision comes to nothing. (Ez 12: 22).  (Interpretation……Nothing new happens around here. We have a vision of what should happen, but it doesn’t)
The Lord spoke to His people through Ezekiel and said, I am going to put an end to this proverb and they will no longer quote it in Israel. Say to them, The days are near when every vision will be fulfilled. (Ez 12:23).
God will and is going to do something new in this generation!
We can easily be caught out saying things that simply aren’t true and repeating them over and over. Nothing much happens around here.

#  The second proverb that was declared to be obsolete and invalid is found in Ez 18:1,2.  What do you people mean by quoting this proverb… The fathers eat sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.

The Lord says, You will no longer quote this proverb in Israel. It’s simply not true. The sins of the fathers will no longer be transferred to their children. Instead, the truth is the soul who sins is the one who will die. Each person faces the consequences of their own actions, not someone else’s.

Ezekiel was saying to his generation —————
– New truths have to be established in your minds
– New proverbs have to be spoken.

In the next few weeks, I want to share a few ‘prophetic proverbs’
Proverbs that when believed and activated by us help to create a future and a hope. Proverbs from the book of Proverbs that are the abiding unchanging words of God.

Just one example for today that expresses the Lord’s plan and purpose for us.

He holds victory in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless. – Proverbs 2:7.

Your battles can be fought and won!
Your obstacles can be overcome!
Your life can be protected from harm!

Lord, we affirm that all your promises are true for us.
Help us today to stand on the promise of this proverb.
Remind us that in you we have all the strength we need to overcome.
