The second week of ‘stage three’ lockdown is ending for the second time. As I ponder what difficulty many of us are experiencing I’m drawn into Gods word and reminded in Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NASB); That which has been is that which will be, and that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun.

Throughout history there have been many viruses, plagues and wars declared on seen and unseen foes; always pushing the boundaries of current knowledge. This latest foe is no exception. We have faced this situation before, we know by experience that it’s possible to withdraw from our usual activities we know what’s in store. Isolation for some of us with a full home is daunting, each day challenging on its own. For others, it’s heartbreaking to see family struggle while being unable to lend a helping hand. Still, some alone will feel forgotten and the sting of loneliness can be difficult to overcome. Thankfully God promises to never leave us or forsake us and we are reminded in his word. The following 9 references declare Gods promise to not leave us alone.

Deuteronomy 31:8 – It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.

Deuteronomy 31:6 – Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.

Joshua 1:5 – No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.

Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Deuteronomy 4:31 – For the Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them.

Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV) – Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.

Isaiah 41:17 – When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the Lord will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them.

Matthew 28:20 – …and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

With this second wave of the Covid-19 virus we are seeing so many lives taken and many more infected, my heart cries for those directly affected not just for their suffering in their physical bodies but I wonder how many know where they will spend eternity?

It’s a sobering reality how deadly this virus is. We heed the warnings of Governmental health officials to preserve life and there have been many financial strategies enacted in an attempt to dampen the impact of loss to livelihoods. Yet there’s another more deadly condition common to humanity. Sin.

Unlike the leaders of the nations with this current worldwide pandemic, God has a cure for sin, not avoidance or just a vaccine. Gods written word reveals and makes known his plan to redeem mankind. From the beginning, he’s been there revealing his Holiness his sovereignty his strength compassion love and justice.

It’s all been recorded between Genesis and Revelation and it’s all been made freely available to those who seek. Every event before the birth of Jesus is filled with references and symbols of who God is. From the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, it’s revealed how mankind can be saved from the penalty (wages of sin) for all mankind has been infected by sin. We must acknowledge our state before God; 1 John 1:8-10 (NASB) If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

There is only one cure, Jesus is the only way his death upon the cross (the price/sacrifice/the gate/deliverance).  Thank God Jesus is the cure and the Holy Spirit is our helper. Romans 8:2 (NIV) – because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Get into God’s word, it reveals the way to live in victory, despite what’s raging in the world around you.
