A rubber ducky is a bright yellow in colour with a flat base, they sound loud when squeezed and are highly buoyant. Rubber ducks naturally inspire water play that develops muscle strength and coordination. With their bright colour, smooth texture, and (for some) squeaky or quacky sounds, rubber ducks sharpen toddlers’ senses.
A rubber ducky spends many hours in storage, however, it’s created for use, even if only for a few minutes a day at bath time. This simple moulded toy brings great joy to children, it makes no difference in the type of bath. The only requirement is that it needs to hold water to fulfil the purpose of immersion. During bath time Infants and young children constantly try to drown the ducky through various means, some prefer to dump water from above, others secure a chokehold on the ducky and drag it beneath the water surface, others will create great waves and much turbulence resulting in the ejection of the rubber ducky along with a good deal of bathwater.
Despite the very best efforts from the child, the rubber ducky victoriously rises upright to float on the water surface. None of the external pressures have managed to keep the ducky down except if the ducky is out of the water lying on the bathroom floor. Ducky, I am sure would then appreciate a helping hand back into that bath!!
You may be wondering what a rubber ducky has to do with you? I’m glad you’re asking!! You too have been created for a purpose both in the natural and also in the spiritual.
The Lord has made everything for its own purpose. – Proverbs 16:4a (NASB)
* Look up these verses in Genesis 2:15, 22-24 & 1:28.
After all this, there is only one thing to say: have reverence for God, and obey his commands, because this is all that human beings were created for. – Ecclesiastes 13:13
We are called to shine not through vanity or considering ourselves better than others, but through our actions and attitudes, reflecting deep gratitude for the life in the Holy Spirit given to us freely through Jesus eternal sacrifice. We are to be ready in and out of season to bear witness and give an account for the hope we have in the finished work of Jesus, removing unobtainable expectations and past failures from ourselves resting wholly in the security of knowing Jesus our big brother has made sure the way to reconcile us with our Heavenly Father. Our joy is coming alongside our Heavenly Father, spending time with Him and immersing ourselves in our Heavenly Fathers word so we can testify praising him for all that he has helped us endure through the trials and testing found in the storms of life. He is ever ready to lift us up and place us securely according to his will.
When the current in the world whisks us along and we find ourselves in territory far from our Fathers home, no matter the direction or where we land, our Father is ready to reach into the situation we are in and restore us we only need to ask and believe he is able. He will keep us afloat and upright like that rubber ducky.
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. – Ephesians 5:8-11 (NIV)
. . . but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; – 1 Peter 3:15 (NASB)
Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. – John 8:31,32 (NASB)
He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; – John 7:38,39a
