Proverbs for Wednesdays: The Influence of the Righteous

(Written by Ray Smith)

John F. Kennedy said, “a rising tide lifts all boats“. This particularly applies to our economy.

There are Biblical proverbs that teach us that the blessing of God on His people will impact those who live around us.

When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice (Proverbs 29:2).

Through the blessing of the upright, a city is exalted  (Proverbs 11:11).

When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices (Proverbs 11:10).

Righteousness exalts a nation (Proverbs 14:34).

Taken together, these proverbs show us that righteousness is more than personal holiness. They show us the impact of lives of holiness on those around us. God’s blessing on us is a way He shows goodness and grace to others. Righteousness influences others in ways that are felt.

Now is a time for us to be freshly aware of this process. It’s a time to pray for that process of influencing to occur in ways that people can’t fail to notice. To see the positive impact of ” the righteous ” within the wider community.

The prosperity and blessing of the righteous aren’t just about possessing resources, but also about rich stores of stability, wisdom and love we have to impart.

Your righteousness contributes to your blessing.
Your blessing will contribute to someone else’s blessing.

Your life and acts of righteousness may seem so small in the grand scheme of things, but we all impart something, to someone in our life sphere. And, according to the above Proverbs, the combined righteousness of Gods people is enough to exalt a whole city and a whole nation!

Lord, may there be an obvious blessing that influences our community through the local churches in our community at this time.

Show us how our personal witness in our immediate neighbourhood is having an effect.

We pray that the virus will abate in Melbourne, and we will soon be able to assemble for worship, and peoples businesses and work return to normal. AMEN.
