We live in a world that is filled to overflowing with acronyms. Some are obvious. Some are less so, and have us engaging a search engine to discover “what on earth that stands for…” It can be quite challenging.
Here’s a shortlist to give your ‘acronymial’ knowledge a work-out: (S.H.Y.G.)
I’m confident that you can think of many, many more. It’s interesting that acronyms are used to save us time in text and conversation, but they will only achieve this if we have a clear understanding of what they represent.
That last one ‘L.G.’ has caught my attention. L.G. is a South Korean electrical brand – and the letters originally stood for “Lucky Goldstar” – but in more recent years have been remarketed to stand for what is more commonly known to us as “Life’s Good”. It’s a very clear, definitive statement isn’t it, though there may be some who would quickly add a question mark after it, and perhaps with very good reason.
Life, as we have known it, has changed forever, but will it have changed for the better? As we look ahead with bated breath as restrictions are slowly being relaxed and as we anticipate life outside of lock-down, will life be good? It is hoped that our hygiene practices will have improved. We’ve taught a new generation what generations past have always known: washing our hands is imperative! And it’s been a valuable exercise in learning how to stay connected, and of thinking outside the square to ensure this continues. It’s also been an opportunity for people to consider what is really important – and what they will carry on into their ‘new normal’.
Jesus had some very helpful insights into what makes “Life Good”, and it’s contrary to what a lot of people think:
Matthew 6: 25-33 “… I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can anyone of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For… your heavenly Father knows what you need. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” This means to live life God’s way – and He will ensure we have all we need to throw in! Win-win!
It is said that the most important things in life are not things. Let me be clear, to have ‘things’ in itself is not a problem; it’s where they sit in the pecking order that matters. If we hold tightly to “things” that hip and shoulder God out from being front and centre of our lives, that’s an issue. God’s Word tells us quite clearly, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21. So, how are we going with that? Do we earnestly seek God and His ways? It’s not an easy assignment. It’s going to cost something. It’s going to take time and effort. But God assures us, that a life lived with an eternal perspective, with our eyes fixed on Him above all else will be worth it, and the benefits will be out of this world! P.T.L. \O/
So… here’s a few more acronyms and a formula for us to ponder:
L.G.: Let Go + Let God + Love God + Live Grateful = Life’s Good
PRAYER: Father God, thank you for granting us an abundant life! Help us to live in such a way that reflects our gratitude and demonstrates to the world that regardless of our circumstances with You, LIFE’S GOOD. Amen.
