Proverbs for Wednesdays – Wisdom in Planning

Ray Smith

Planning is what we do when we need to get from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’. From where we are now to another place. What is the best way to get there? Planning is complicated when we have a number of ideas and options. In our planning Proverbs provide God-given wisdom for us.

In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.
– Proverbs 16:9

As we invite our Lord into our planning process, we can be confident that He works to determine the steps we take; He directs us at the beginning of the process.

Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
– Proverbs 19:21

Often, we grapple with the fact that there are a number of different ways to go from here to there. We have a number of options and ideas, however through it all, we can be confident that God’s way will prevail.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed. The Lord works out everything for His ends.
– Proverbs 16:3 & 4

As we commit our plans to our heavenly Father, the end result for us will be success!
Thank and praise God for this today.

Father we commit our way to you today, in a fresh and specific way.
Thank you that you are our companion on our way.
Thank you that you guide and direct us as we walk and prompt us to act in particular ways by your Spirit.

We affirm that you will use everything that we plan and purpose.
We know and affirm that in the end, your purpose prevails.

Lord, we invite you to lead and guide our steps. May our decisions not only bring blessing to us, but also to our families, our friends, our neighbours and our church.

As we walk through this world today, Lord, make us shine in the darkness.
